Medical Acupuncture
Western medicine has become like taking your car to the garage. You visit the doctor, tell him your problem, he diagnoses you, prescribes your medicine, and sends you away. It is a minimum of personal interaction that uses medicines to treat everything.
Medical acupuncture, on the other hand, focuses on working with the body's energy to improve health and healing. Acupuncturés ability to successfully treat pain and other health problems is well documented.
Often, acupuncture eliminates the need for prescription medication, and because of my medical background, I am qualified to safely adjust medicine as acupuncture treatments improve the body's health. Vitamins, herbs, and other supplements can also be used to enhance the body's ability to heal itself.
Concerned?
You are probably worried about the pain associated with having needles inserted in your skin. Here are a few facts that might ease your concerns.
- The deepest needles used for treatments are inserted 3/4 of an inch deep or less. In a typical treatment, the needles reach only a depth of 1/2 an inch.
- A typical blood-drawing needle, with its hollow core, cuts a small piece of tissue as it is inserted. A solid acupuncture needle simply divides tissue, resulting in less pain and bleeding.
- Size matters! Think of a drinking straw (a blood-drawing needle) versus a broom straw (an acupuncture needle).
- While most people can overcome a fear of needles once they experience the healing effects of acupuncture, it is not for severe needlephobes.
